Newcastle Likely to Miss Isak for Premier League Opener Amid Transfer Tensions
Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe's hinted that star striker Alexander Isak's unlikely to play in the club’s Premier League opener against Aston Villa as uncertainty over his future continues.
Howe confirmed that discussions with the Swedish forward're still taking place. The Magpies have already rejected 110 million sterling pound (147m Dollars) offer from Liverpool but the manager doubts agreement will be reached before the season kicks off.
"I want him to play today, to train tomorrow and to stay with us, But I don’t see that changing before Villa, given the situation we're in" Howe said in Saturday’s press conference.
When asked if the club could simply refuse to sell Isak, Howe suggested the reality was more complicated.
"If it was that easy, we’d have done it long time ago, I don’t think we’re in position to do that right now" he admitted.
Reports indicate the 25 year old striker was left out of Friday’s 2 - 2 draw with Espanyol in the Sela cup and will also miss Newcastle’s friendly against Atletico Madrid later on Saturday.
His absence has further intensified speculation over potential move before the transfer window closes.
