Newcastle target Davide Frattesi is available in January | OneFootball

Newcastle United could move for Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi in the winter transfer window, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

He hasn’t started a league game since October 4, and the Magpies could reportedly offer him a lifeline.

Frattesi is hoping to earn a place in Italy’s World Cup squad, having previously won 33 international caps.

However, while Frattesi is a good player, he’s not a transformational one.

Newcastle do not need Frattesi

Newcastle already have several players with a similar profile to Frattesi.

Joe Willock is fit again and offers the same vertical thrust. Jacob Ramsey brings ball-carrying and end-product between the lines. Lewis Miley is a promising youngster.

That’s three bench options capable of covering the number eight role for the rest of the season.

This isn’t a squad desperate for another runner. The Magpies need someone who can control matches, set the tempo, progress the ball under pressure, and give them a different gear in big games.

That type of midfielder doesn’t arrive in January, and Frattesi is not that calibre of player. Newcastle must think bigger if they want to challenge for silverware.

January must be about building rhythm with what they already have. They can sign a game-changing midfielder next summer.
