Newcastle United have cancelled 45 tickets purchased by the High School of Dundee for the club’s Champions League home clash with Barcelona.

BBC Sport reported that the Scottish school, nearly 200 miles from Tyneside, had secured tickets through what it believed to be an approved channel, just days after 110,000 fans queued online for the final tranche of seats. But the purchase was later traced to unauthorised resales by Newcastle supporters, leading to the tickets being voided and the associated season tickets cancelled.

A Newcastle spokesperson confirmed that the seats will now be redistributed through the club’s official sales process. “These tickets will be made available to Newcastle United supporters through the club’s existing ticket sale process,” the statement read.

The Newcastle United Supporters’ Trust welcomed the move, praising the club for acting decisively against profiteering. “Ticketing can be a divisive subject but we feel united in the stance that tickets belong in the hands of genuine Newcastle supporters,” the Trust said, while urging greater transparency in sales procedures.

Newcastle attempt to crack down on ticket touting

The issue is far from isolated. It is understood that 78 season tickets or memberships have been cancelled this season for unauthorised resale, with around 4,500 accounts placed on an internal watchlist. A further 750 supporters are under active investigation, while the club says it is even purchasing illicit tickets itself to trace those behind the transactions.

The Barcelona fixture has further intensified demand, with Newcastle reporting more than 130,000 bot attempts to purchase tickets online.
