Sandro Tonali has been linked with a potential exit, but it’s highly unlikely to happen in January. In particular, Juventus had shown some preliminary interest, but the figures to acquire him are sky-high, Corriere dello Sport informed.
The midfielder hasn’t been a staple of the formation all season long but has played more consistently as of late. He returned in August after serving his lengthy betting-related suspension. He’s starting to gel with Bruno Guimaraes and Joelington and bagged a brace in a recent cup game versus Brentford.
Tonali would have to ask out for Newcastle United to even mull his sale, which hasn’t occurred. Moreover, he earns €8M net until 2028. The Magpies would want to cash in more than what they spent to sign him from Milan, €60M.
The English club could eventually part ways with some of their top players due to PSR rules, but the Azzurri star is low on the totem pole in that respect. He has joined relatively recently and for a big fee. Other departures would be a lot more profitable. PIF invested big in their first year, but then the team has basically had to self-finance.
The rumors weren’t particularly believable, both for the massive sums at stake and because Juventus, in addition to not having that kind of dough lying around, are set in the midfield, unlike in other roles. Plus, he’s very attached to Milan. If he somehow left Newcastle United in the near future, he’d try to find his way back to San Siro before taking other Serie A destinations into consideration.
