Newcastle United striker William Osula and Eintracht Frankfurt have reached a verbal agreement in principle over a loan move in the winter transfer window.
The Newcastle star was linked with an exit away from St James’ Park last summer, but the deal fell through.
Frankfurt agreed personal terms with Osula at the time, but Magpies manager Eddie Howe did not sanction the move as he wanted to hold on to him.
The Danish striker has started one Premier League game this term, coming off the bench nine times as he is behind summer arrival Nick Woltemade.
Yoane Wissa is also set to return to action soon for Newcastle, having suffered a couple of relapses since his arrival from Brentford in the summer.
Osula will be behind the DR Congo international striker if he remains with the Magpies beyond the winter transfer window, and an exit makes sense for both parties.
A loan deal is perfect as Newcastle can decide against selling him to the Bundesliga club if he impresses.
They could also decide to sell him to another club for more than €20 million if his value skyrockets in the coming months.
Osula is desperate to play regularly, having featured for just 22 minutes in the Champions League this term. Frankfurt are ready to hand him much-needed playing opportunities.
The striker is not the only first-team player likely to leave during the winter, with Crystal Palace looking to sign English midfielder Joe Willock.
Newcastle are expected to sell the former Arsenal star if they can bring in AZ Alkmaar midfielder Kees Smit as his replacement.
Howe needs quality squad depth to compete strongly in the second half of the season as the Magpies eye another impressive campaign.
