Liverpool are expected to still have a lot of changes in the transfer window despite being the favourites to win the Premier League this season. However, the club suffered a shocking exit in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League and lost the final of the EFL Cup against Newcastle United. They are also facing issues with the end of the contracts of some of their most important players.
Amidst all this, The Athletic has reported that Newcastle United want to sign the young 22-year-old centre-back from Liverpool, Jarell Quansah. The Magpies are targeting a new centre-back, and the Englishman has grown from strength to strength in the last two years. His progress and development have attracted the attention of some high-profile clubs in the transfer window.
Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles, and Dan Burn are at the fag end of their careers. The Magpies need a younger replacement for the trio. Moreover, Sven Botman has faced a lot of injury concerns recently. Hence, they are interested in Quansah.
Jarell Quansah, Liverpool’s rising star, is a centre-back who blends composure with flair. At just 22, he is already turning heads with his ball-playing ability. The 22-year-old effortlessly breaks lines with crisp, long passes that showcase his vision. Defensively, he is a rock—calm under pressure, strong in the air, and quick to react, making him a nightmare for forwards.
The Englishman’s Cruyff turn against Premier League foes hints at a confidence rare for his age. With a 96% pass accuracy on debut against Wolves and a knack for winning duels, Quansah’s athleticism and decision-making mark him as a future defensive cornerstone.
He has conceded 4 goals and kept 5 clean sheets in 10 matches in the Premier League 2024/2025 season. That means when Quansah is on the pitch, his team concedes a goal every 71 minutes. Moreover, he has made 2.84 tackles and 1.58 interceptions for every 90 minutes he was on the pitch.
Liverpool won’t be and should not be ready to sell him. Virgil van Dijk’s contract ends this summer, and the Reds have still not reached an agreement over a renewal. Hence, the Dutchman might be leaving the club this summer, and they can’t let the 22-year-old leave, given that it will affect the depth of the team in the backline.
