In front of 88,513 fans, the highest ever crowd to watch the Magpies in a domestic cup final since the 1976 League Cup final (100,000), goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak secured a unforgettable 2-1 win for Eddie Howe's side, delivering the club's first major trophy since the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1969.

On cloud nine

Earlier this year, United equalled an impressive club record after claiming nine wins in a row across all competitions.

After ending 2024 with four successive Premier League wins, scoring 13 goals and failing to concede in the process, United began the New Year with a 2-1 comeback victory away at Tottenham Hotspur and after respective cup wins over Brentford, Bromley and Arsenal, sealed a ninth consecutive win with a 3-0 triumph against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Seventh heaven for Gordon

Anthony Gordon has been in electric form for United during this season's UEFA Champions League, scoring five goals as well as adding two assists in six league phase fixtures.

The England international, on target against FC Barcelona, Union Saint-Gilloise and Benfica, equalled Alan Shearer's record for the most goal contributions in a single Champions League campaign for Newcastle (7), after netting from the penalty spot in December's 2-2 draw away at Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

The 24-year-old will be aiming to add to his tally when the Magpies face PSV Eindhoven and Paris Saint-Germain next month.

Murphy's dozen

Jacob Murphy carried out, arguably, the greatest campaign of his professional career last season after recording 20 goal involvements in the Premier League, including an eye-catching 12 assists.

The Wembley-born winger, who made his 200th league appearance for his boyhood club against Manchester United on Boxing Day, achieved the highest amount of assists in a single Premier League campaign for Newcastle since Nolberto Solano in 1999/00 (15).

Teenage kicks

Lewis Miley enjoyed a strong finish to the calendar year and the Stanley-born youngster created history for his boyhood club after becoming Newcastle United's youngest ever Champions League goalscorer.

The 19-year-old midfielder, a product of the Magpies' Academy, was on the scoresheet in the Magpies' 2-2 draw away at Bayer 04 Leverkusen and broke the goalscoring feat, held by Hugo Viana since 2003.

A historic night in Brussels

The Magpies recorded their biggest ever victory in the Champions League following an impressive 4-0 triumph over Belgian Pro League champions Union Saint-Gilloise in October.

Nick Woltemade opened the scoring in the Belgian capital, becoming the first Newcastle player to score on both his first Premier League and Champions League start before Gordon netted two penalties, becoming the third Englishman to do so in a Champions League match along with Wayne Rooney and Harry Kane.

Harvey Barnes' first-ever Champions League goal in the closing stages, becoming the first substitute to score in the Champions League for Newcastle, rounded off the scoring as United sealed a first away win in the competition since 2003.

Hometown glory

United's home form proved a crucial factor towards sealing Champions League qualification for a second time in their last three campaigns last term, winning 12 out of 19 Premier League fixtures at St. James' Park.

After six wins in their final seven league games on home soil, including memorable triumphs over Manchester United, Crystal Palace and Chelsea, the Magpies achieved their most home wins in an English top-flight campaign since the 2002/03 (15) under Sir Bobby Robson's management.
