With the January transfer window now open, Paris Saint-Germain has a chance to offload players who no longer fit into their plans—and Marco Asensio seems to be one of them.
Since November 30, Asensio’s role has seen a sharp decline. The former Real Madrid star has fallen out of the starting lineup and has had little time off the bench.
It’s becoming clearer that manager Luis Enrique doesn’t see him as a key part of his project, and with the transfer window closing soon, rumors about a possible exit are starting to heat up.

On Thursday, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Aston Villa are in talks with PSG for Asensio, one of the prominent names on their list. Moreover, Romano’s reporting reveals that the Spaniard would be keen on a move to Villa.
TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey reported on Thursday, citing sources, that Asensio is ready to leave PSG after falling down the pecking order under Luis Enrique this season.
As a result, Aston Villa are now showing interest in the former Real Madrid winger. TBR Football also reports that João Félix is eager to join Villa. With Emiliano Buendía moving to Bayer Leverkusen on loan and Jhon Durán, whom Chelsea passed on last summer, also set to leave, there’s space in the squad for Asensio to fit in.
Earlier this week, a report surfaced stating that Aston Villa, Wolverhampton, Newcastle, Crystal Palace, and Chelsea are all reportedly interested in the Spanish international.
Aston Villa are believed to be at the forefront of the race for his signature. The report also mentions interest from Bayer Leverkusen, Galatasaray, and clubs in Saudi Arabia, indicating that the competition for Asensio remains wide open.
Discussions for a potential permanent transfer this winter are still ongoing, with the expected fee ranging between €15 million and €25 million, according to the report.
