The Senegalese goalkeeper endured a frustrating Ligue 1 debut with Nice.
Yehvann Diouf made his first appearance in Ligue 1 wearing the Nice jersey on Saturday, August 16 at the Allianz Riviera. The goalkeeper conceded a late goal against Toulouse, who secured a 1-0 victory in the opening round of the championship.
The Senegalese shot-stopper voiced his dismay after this defeat, which came in the final minutes. Despite a more convincing second half, the Aiglons lacked efficiency at both ends of the pitch. Diouf lamented the lack of sharpness in attack and defense. Djibril Sidibé's powerful strike in the 89th minute sealed the match's fate. This first Ligue 1 test did not deliver the hoped-for result, but the player remains focused on the rest of the season.
“Of course I'm disappointed. We showed a better face in the second half. We were more dangerous. We played with more intensity. On the only chance we conceded, we lost the match. We lacked efficiency in both penalty areas. We conceded on their only shot and couldn't convert ours. It hurts, we're gutted. We wanted to turn the page, to show we could bounce back. It didn't go as planned. What matters are the points, and we didn't get any. We'll analyze what went wrong and have to focus on the next match to do better. I'm enjoying being here, but these clearly aren't the debut I was hoping for. We'll keep working to improve every weekend,” said Yehvann Diouf in the mixed zone.
