Nick Pope extends contract with Newcastle until 2027 | OneFootball

England goalkeeper Nick Pope has triggered a one-year extension option in his contract at Newcastle United (h/t Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie).

The 33-year-old’s deal was set to expire at the end of the ongoing campaign, but he has taken up the option of an additional year to remain at the club until June 2027.

Pope has been instrumental to Newcastle’s strong start to the season, keeping six clean sheets in nine appearances in all competitions.

He also played a key role in helping his side win the League Cup last term, which ended their 70-year domestic trophy drought.

Despite Pope’s brilliance last season, Newcastle were in the market for a goalkeeper in the summer.

They failed to sign James Trafford but managed to secure a loan deal with Aaron Ramsdale from Southampton.

However, Ramsdale has started just one League Cup game, with Pope still Eddie Howe’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Pope came to Tyneside from Burnley for a fee worth around £10 million in 2022. He has made 104 senior appearances for the Magpies, keeping 41 clean sheets and conceding 100 goals.

Newcastle still have ten players whose contracts are set to expire next summer.

Most notable among them are defenders Kieran Trippier and Fabian Schar. Trippier has reached the age of 35, while Schar will turn 34 this December.

Newcastle will look to address their futures, with contract talks expected with new sporting director Ross Wilson.
