Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade’s “perfect summer” rolls on. The 23-year-old simply cannot stop succeeding. A DFB Pokal triumph with his Bundesliga club and his German senior team debut behind him, Woltemade delivered another sensational performance for the Germany U21s last night.
In point of fact, the word “sensational” doesn’t exactly do Woltemade justice. A hat-trick against the Slovenian U21s in Germany’s U21 European Championship opener actually constituted Woltemade’s second consecutive three-goal-haul for Antonio di Salvo’s team.
Neither Woltemade nor di Di Salvo had much profound to say following the victory. Naturally, such statistics speak for themselves. Both men remained cautious about the road ahead.
The 2023 U21 group stage elimination under di Salvo’s stewardship isn’t forgotten. Tougher tests than last night’s opponents, the Slovenian U21s, await. Di Salvo’s Junior face the Czech U21s on Sunday and the England U21s next Wednesday.
“It was an important step for us,” Woltemade told Sat1 after the full-time whistle. “Three goals tastes quite nice. We’re very happy now. I’m happy to keep scoring as long as we’re winning.“
“His [scoring] streak with us is uncanny,” di Salvo added. “but he’s welcome to keep it up.“
