Nicolas de Tavernost has hit back at Jean-Pierre Rivère over his criticism of Ligue 1+, reminding the Nice president he voted for the channel’s creation. The former LFP Media chief executive made his point after Rivère’s midweek comments.
According to L'Équipe, Rivère said on a Nice-Matin programme on Wednesday that Ligue 1+ was a mistake and that, at the time, the LFP Media boss believed the channel was the right answer.
De Tavernost replied on X that Ligue 1 presidents, including Rivère, unanimously approved launching Ligue 1+ because there was no satisfactory alternative.
Rivère also said he had opened talks with Canal+, which he claimed was ready to return. De Tavernost countered that his intervention with Canal+ produced no outcome.
Rivère was Nice president when Ligue 1+ was created, then stepped down for several months to join the UDR list backed by the Rassemblement national of Éric Ciotti for the 2026 municipal elections, before leaving that list and returning in December. De Tavernost resigned from LFP Media in February, saying he lacked the support he needed.
