Nicolás Otamendi, a 2022 World Cup winner with Argentina, has signed for River Plate at 38 on a deal to 31 December 2027.
River Plate announced on Saturday that the centre-back will join on 1 July. The move takes him back to the Argentine top flight.

The veteran has 130 caps and eight goals for Argentina.
He moved to Benfica in summer 2020 after leaving Manchester City and quickly became a cornerstone of their defence.
Across six seasons he made 281 appearances for the Lisbon club, scoring 18 and providing 14 assists. He departs with Benfica third in the league, securing a place in the next edition of the Europa League.
