Nicolás Otamendi ‘close to signing’ River Plate deal as Benfica renewal remains possible | OneFootball

Record reports that Nicolás Otamendi may be very close to agreeing a move to River Plate, with talks said to be advanced as his Benfica contract nears its end.

Talks with the Buenos Aires club are described as progressing and could be concluded soon.

The report adds that the 38-year-old has been informed River are ready to table an 18-month deal, running to December 2027, which would apply only if he does not renew at Benfica.

The decision remains with the Argentine defender, and extending at Benfica is still possible, though the report notes it may not happen. To stay, he would need to accept a lower wage.

Otamendi, valued at 1 million euros, has made 48 appearances for Benfica this season, scoring three goals in 4,224 minutes. His games span 29 in the Liga Portugal Betclic, 14 in the Champions League, two in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça.
