Nicolás Otamendi trains at Seixal as Benfica exit nears

With his Benfica contract running down, Nicolás Otamendi, 38, has been maintaining fitness at Seixal during his holidays.

Record writes that the centre-back, who has announced his departure from the Luz, has kept turning up at Benfica Campus before joining Argentina’s pre-World Cup camp.

He is understood to still be in Portugal and has been using the facilities to prepare for the World Cup. Footage on social media showed him working hard in the first-team gym. Lionel Scaloni’s side aim to defend the title won in 2022.

Away from the pitch, he is also moving to finalise a change of country. His next step appears to point towards River Plate.

Otamendi is bidding farewell to Benfica with four trophies, one league title, one League Cup and two Supertaças Cândido de Oliveira, after six seasons.
