There are signs of a setback for Tom Bischof shortly before the next DFB call-up. According to the latest reports, the Bayern youngster will not be in national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s squad
The DFB will officially announce the squad for the upcoming international matches against Switzerland and Ghana on Thursday at 2 p.m. But the first information is already leaking out in the run-up – and from Bischof’s point of view, it’s not very encouraging
While team-mate Lennart Karl has apparently been nominated for the senior national team for the first time, Bischof has been left empty-handed according to the Munich newspaper tz, which reports that the 20-year-old has not received a call from national coach Nagelsmann
Bischof had recently been cautiously optimistic: „I’m in contact with Julian Nagelsmann, not just about the World Cup or the nomination – but I also have to wait for Thursday and let myself be surprised.“
Now it seems clear: the surprise will probably not happen

A decisive factor for the lack of a nomination is likely to be the strong competition in his positions. In central midfield, Nagelsmann is currently relying on established forces such as Aleksandar Pavlovic and Leon Goretzka – both of whom are also under contract with FC Bayern
Felix Nmecha is another established member of the DFB squad
Competition is also fierce at left-back, where Bischof has helped out on several occasions this season, with David Raum and Maximilian Mittelstädt two regulars who are currently set to play there
If the reports are confirmed, it would be a clear signal for the 2026 World Cup. The matches against Switzerland and Ghana are regarded as the last important tests before the final squad is put together
If Bischof were to miss out, his chances of taking part in the World Cup would be significantly diminished
The youngster will now have to focus on his performances at FC Bayern, as only strong performances at the club can bring him back into the national team coach’s sights
The door to the national team is not closed for good – but the path to it has become noticeably rockier for Bischof.
