Wrexham are firmly in the mix for automatic promotion to the Championship this season.

The Red Dragons are seeking a remarkable third consecutive promotion under Phil Parkinson, having gone from the National League to League Two to League One in back-to-back years.

However, they face competition from Wycombe Wanderers for the final place inside the top two, with Birmingham City running away in top spot.

Co-owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds will be keen to see the club’s journey up the English football pyramid continue with another promotion.

Long-term Wrexham ownership claim

When asked whether they think the club’s owners are in it for the long haul, FLW’s Wrexham fan pundit Liam Grice claimed they have no doubt that they are.

He believes Reynolds and McElhenney’s search for outside investment, coming from the Allyn family, is a positive sign for their ambitions for the Welsh outfit, rather than a sign they’re seeking an exit.

“There’s no doubt in my mind Ryan and Rob are in for the long haul,” Grice told Football League World.

“Whether they stay as the majority owners for their entire tenure, that’s a completely different question.

“I don’t think if we go up the divisions at the level we have, there’s going to be outside investment and we’ve seen that already with the Allyn family coming in, the billionaires from New York.

“So that’s just another step in the right direction.

“But they’re still very much involved in their fullest capacity, so I don’t really see a scenario where they would backtrack out of their investment they’ve made in Wrexham.

“Because we love them, they love us, it’s a pretty mutual agreement we’ve come to, and long may it continue.”

Wrexham have six games left to secure automatic promotion to the Championship, with the team currently leading third-place Wycombe by three points, albeit having played one fixture more.

Reynolds and McElhenney aren’t going anywhere just yet

Reynolds and McElhenny’s investment into Wrexham has been a huge boon for the club both on and off the pitch.

Their results haven’t been this good in an incredibly long time, and their profile has never been higher.

As long as they continue climbing the English football pyramid, then there should be no concerns over the ownership situation.

Nobody knows just how far these two Hollywood actors want to take the club, but the fact they’ve brought in outside investment shows they want the backing to go as far as they can, with their sights surely set on the Premier League long-term.
