Reinforcing their defense is one of the main priorities of FC Barcelona in the upcoming summer transfer window, and for this purpose, the Blaugranes have been linked with several interesting players in the last few months.
The Inter Milan center-back Alessandro Bastoni was the one most strongly linked with the Catalan side; however, these links have weakened in the last few weeks, and it remains to be seen how this operation would develop.
Meanwhile, Barcelona have been looking at other alternatives in the market, and according to Matteo Moretto (via SPORT), one of the players being monitored is Jakub Kiwior.
The Polish defender has reportedly been watched closely by the Catalans during the season, with club scouts even attending matches in person to watch him live.
However, there are still no negotiations taking place as things stand, especially as Barcelona remain focused on strengthening the attack first.
Currently owned by Arsenal FC, Kiwior spent this season on loan at FC Porto, with the Portuguese side having a mandatory purchase option worth around €17 million plus variables.
The 26-year-old defender is seen as a more affordable option for Barcelona and also offers versatility across the backline. Primarily a left-footed center back, he is also capable of playing as a left back and even in defensive midfield if needed.
His physical profile and ability on the ball are some of the qualities that appear to appeal to FC Barcelona, particularly at a time when the club is looking for players capable of fitting into Hansi Flick’s high-intensity system.
With the Blaugranes now prioritising the signing of an elite striker ahead of next season, the search for a reliable and financially viable defender continues in parallel, and Kiwior is emerging as one of the names being followed most closely by the Catalan club.
