Pep Guardiola has, once again, referred to his Manchester City contract when discussing his future at the Etihad Stadium.
The Catalan manager’s future has been the subject of relentless media speculation as Manchester City approach the endgame of the 2025/26 campaign, with an FA Cup and Premier League double still up for grabs.
With a gruelling Premier League title race against Arsenal – whom they beat to the Carabao Cup earlier this year – reaching its finale and a date with Chelsea at Wembley, rumours have intensified suggesting Guardiola could walk away this summer rather than see out his tenure.
As the club stands on the precipice of another domestic double and potentially treble, the manager utilised his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to London to draw another line under the mounting whispers regarding his plans.
Speaking ahead of Manchester City’s FA Cup final against Chelsea, and Pep Guardiola’s opportunity to win his 20th trophy during his Etihad Stadium tenure, the Catalan coach was asked whether such a tally is the ‘definition of greatness’.
“Yeah,” he laughed. “Of course! 19 titles in 10 years is not bad.”
On whether he has to leave Manchester City before such an achievement will be appreciated by the masses, Guardiola responded, “They know that, they don’t need to wait for when I’m leaving.
“They know it has been fun! It has been f*****g FUN! So 19 titles, fighting for the 20th in 10 years is not bad, honestly.”
However, the most notable moment came when the 55-year-old was asked about Saturday afternoon’s visit to Wembley Stadium being his last in charge of Manchester City, given the ongoing rumours concerning a potential exit from the club this summer.
“No way! No way,” Guardiola said. “I have one more year contract,” before chuckling and leaving his press conference on cue.
Pep Guardiola’s mic-drop conclusion arguably leaves no doubt about his immediate commitment, firmly aligning with his current deal which runs until the summer of 2027.
A definitive “no way” over Manchester City’s future at Wembley is likely to provide a sigh of relief for supporters, the dressing room, and perhaps the hierarchy despite their preparations for life after their most successful coach.

Commitment from Guardiola is also likely to enable next season’s recruitment plans under sporting director Hugo Viana to proceed with complete structural stability, as the likes of Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson emerge as primary targets.
