According to Sunderland Echo, Sunderland midfielder Noah Sadiki expressed pride after featuring in DR Congo’s historic World Cup run, describing the experience as a childhood dream.

The former Union Saint-Gilloise player impressed in his first season on Wearside. He made 35 appearances as the Black Cats finished seventh in the Premier League and booked a Europa League league-phase spot alongside AC Milan, Juventus and Olympique Marseille.

Sadiki earned a World Cup call and came off the bench against Portugal and Colombia in the group stage in North America. He then started a 3-1 win over Uzbekistan that sealed a place in the last 32.

He kept his place for DR Congo’s first ever World Cup knockout tie against England. Brian Cipenga put DR Congo ahead inside seven minutes, but Thomas Tuchel’s side advanced after captain Harry Kane struck twice in 11 minutes to set up co-hosts Mexico in the last 16.

"It's a dream. I think every player has this dream as a kid, to play in games like this at the World Cup."

"I'm gutted that it's finished, but it's life and it's part of the journey. We have to grow from this and be ready for the next one."

"The win against Uzbekistan was a huge moment in our history. It showed what this team is capable of and gave everyone back home something to be proud of."
