Norwich City may have to fend off interest in their star forward once more
Burnley are ready to make another move for Norwich City striker Josh Sargent.
The Canaries have started the first third of this season disastrously, losing 10 of their first 15 matches to sit 23rd in the Championship.
Just a Sheffield Wednesday side in administration are currently below them and without the Owls’ 12-point deduction, Norwich would be just a single point off the bottom of the league.
The Norfolk side frequently operated out of the Premier League in the 2010s and were hoping to get back into the promotion fight this season. That hasn’t happened and after a defeat at home against Leicester, Liam Manning was relieved of his duties as manager.
There could be further bad news to compound the Carrow Road faithful’s woes as well, regarding their star striker Sargent.

During the summer of 2025, it seemed almost inevitable that Sargent would leave Norwich.
German side Wolfsburg agreed a £21m deal for his services, but the USMNT striker decided to turn that move down in the end.
Journalist Alan Nixon revealed via his Patreon that Burnley also made a move for Sargent, but only offered £1.5m up front, with ‘complicated extras’ meaning the overall package would reach £10m.
This was swiftly rejected, but Nixon has now reported that Scott Parker’s side are keen on revisiting a transfer for the 25-year-old in the January transfer window.
It is stated within the report that Burnley are keen to add some extra firepower to their ranks to boost a survival bid, but are working within spending limitations, so a deal that includes bonuses based upon achievements works well for them.
Sargent had scored 31 goals in his last 62 Championship appearances heading into the 2025/26 campaign and looked capable of maintaining that form after striking five times in the first four games of this term.
However, the striker hasn’t netted since late August, which can be partially put down to the Canaries’ woeful drop in form.

Although Sargent’s form hasn’t been brilliant over the past few months, losing his services in January would be a hammer blow to the Canaries’ survival chances.
The 25-year-old is by far their most dangerous operator and following Manning’s departure, may find a new lease of life under whoever operates out of Carrow Road’s home dugout next.
He has proven Championship credentials and, when on form, is arguably the division’s best forward. Interest from Premier League and Bundesliga sides proves how respected Sargent is within the game and Norwich must keep hold of this asset until the end of the season.
If they don’t, it could frustrate supporters even further and make the prospect of suffering relegation to League One uncomfortably realistic.
