The Canaries want to bring their new boss in soon.
Russell Martin is reportedly not a candidate to be the next Norwich City manager.
The hope of the Canaries' hierarchy is that the search for a successor to Johannes Hoff Thorup will be found before the end of the month, but that person will not be the former Southampton boss, according to The Pink Un.
Despite his numerous connections to Carrow Road, having captained for the club that he supported as a child, Norwich, reportedly, have not held any talks with the 42-year-old.
It was confirmed by sporting director Ben Knapper that Jack Wilshere, who filled in as the first-team's interim boss for the final two games of the season, following Thorup's dismissal, won't be the next Norwich head coach, and he is now set to leave the club altogether. Knapper stated that City were looking externally for candidates.
Martin felt like a potentially natural fit for the Canaries, given his history with the club and recent success in the Championship, but a return to Carrow Road for him is not looking likely, according to Pink Un.
He has, though, got plans to return to management sooner than later. While appearing on Match of the Day 2 last weekend, he revealed that he had already rejected "a few" offers to get back into coaching but had turned them down because they weren't the right fit for him.
"We've turned a few opportunities down because it just didn't feel quite right, and it's about the opportunity that it gives us, how we feel about it, the people you're working for - all of it comes into account. And also, like, the cultural context, how the style of play will fit, how the work that we do will be with the club's (work)...
"Not necessarily how they play now, but, maybe, what the fans have been used to, maybe what has brought them success previously. Definitely how convinced the ownership are and the people in charge are with how we do things, the methodology, whatever you want to call it. But I'm really excited about whatever comes next."
He has been linked with joining soon-to-be second-tier side Leicester City as well as Scottish giants Rangers, of late.
His record in the Championship speaks for itself. One promotion with Southampton, an average of 1.55 points per game (roughly 71 points across a season); he is a strong manager at Norwich's level, if you provide him with good enough tools to execute the jobs that he wants his players to do.
Now that City are out of the race, the two clubs that are said to be vying for him are likely to be near the top end of their respective leagues next season, making him an obvious option for either of them.
