The futures of two Manchester City stars have featured in a club statement released by Norwich City this week following the conclusion of the regular Championship season.
Hugo Viana and Txiki Begiristain may be embroiled in a number of high-profile transfer sagas this summer, namely in the midfield department, but certainly have their work cut-out when it comes to potential outgoings from the club, too.
A number of names from within Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad are likely to command interest from across Europe as City prepares to undergo somewhat of a squad overhaul this summer, including the older names including Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva.
There is also the futures of young stars to iron out, both concerning those struggling for consistent first-team opportunities within the Etihad side, and those that have been out on loan during the 2024/25 season and are eyeing their next challenge in the game.
One club has already offered transparency to its supporters over two names they took away from Manchester City on a temporary basis at different points of the last season, as they look to build together their squad for the 2025/26 Championship season.
As per a wide-ranging statement from Carrow Road detailing the futures of their loan and out-of-contract players, it has been confirmed that versatile defender Callum Doyle will return to Manchester City following his season-long loan arrangement at Norwich City.
As for the future of midfielder Jacob Wright, the Championship club confirm that discussions are now ongoing with their Manchester City counterparts over triggering an option to make the 19-year-old’s move to Carrow Road permanent.
In the case of Wright, the midfielder recently told an interview of his delight at the idea of remaining at Norwich City on a permanent basis, having initially joined the club on a short-term agreement during the January market.
“100 per cent,” Wright responded when asked whether he would be happy to sign a permanent deal with the Canaries, speaking in early April.
He continued, “I’m really starting to build something nice, enjoying it, a good family club. I’m really enjoying the way they play. Hopefully, we get better results next season if I stay. I’d definitely like to.”
As for Callum Doyle, many believed that after four consecutive impressive loan spells in the Football League that the Englishman would be primed for a place in Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad, particularly after impressing under the Catalan during the last pre-season tour.
However, the investment made in defensive positions during the January transfer window, and further recruitment plotted for full-back roles this summer, would appear to indicate a blocked pathway for Doyle and a need to find a new challenge elsewhere.
