Gary Cahill has been quite critical of Chelsea on the pitch when he’s been working for Sky Sports, but in an interview for the club’s website he was much more positive about the overall project at Stamford Bridge:

“A number of years ago, this was a really young squad put together. It seemed like all the changes were happening at once, the ownership etc. And it was clear that they were building a young squad to develop,” the Champions League winning defender explained.

“So I felt like I was always trying to preach patience, be patient. Because going out and getting lots of experienced players like the dressing room I walked into is not always easy.

“They’re not far off, it’s just at the minute a bit of inconsistency.”
