Julian Nagelsmann has been asked about Florian Wirtz and Nick Woltemade.
The national head coach asked about the Bundesliga losing Germany internationals to the Premier League.
Julian Nagelsmann thinking that whilst having his players performing in the best and toughest league will be best for Nick Woltemade and Florian Wirtz, it is a different matter when it comes to the prestige and strength of the German domestic set-up; “It is not ideal for the German Bundesliga that the best German players are moving to England.”
It is rare for many of the German international players to leave the Bundesliga and indeed, even in the current squad playing the September internationals, only four of the 23 play in other leagues. Rudiger is in La Liga with Real Madrid, whilst you have Niclas Fullkrug (West Ham), Nick Woltemade (Newcastle United) and Florian Wirtz (Liverpool).
This move from the norm also sees Bayern Munich diminished from their position of hoovering up the best German talent emerging from other Bundesliga clubs. It had been expected in Germany that both Wirtz and Woltemade wiuld end up at Bayern Munich, but instead they’ve ended up at Premier League clubs. Bayern even failing with three bids for Nick Woltemade.
Julian Nagelsmann happy his players are competing at the highest level, Florian Wirtz (Liverpool) and Nick Woltemade (Newcastle United) swapping the Bundesliga for the Premier League:
“I’m happy when they play a lot of games and get a lot of minutes.
“That is the most important thing for me.
“It is not ideal for the German Bundesliga that the best German players are moving to England.
“But that is just how it is.
“It is kind of normal at this period of time.
“Flo is already one of the most important players for us.
“Nick is too and will be in the future.
“I hope Nick will play regularly at Newcastle United so he can develop in the right way.
“If they do, they will play a big role for us.”
Earlier comments from Julian Nagelsmann when he was quizzed ahead of Germany’s match against Slovakia, asked about Nick Woltemade signing for Newcastle United and Bayern Munich failing with three bids – 3 September 2025:
“I think that it is unfortunate on all sides that everything was played out so publicly (this summer with Nick Woltemade).
“Of course I gave him some advice.
“Not which club he should move to.
“I don’t do that.
“But (said to Nick Woltemade) that players have to play regularly (to play for a national side).
“I didn’t consider a few of the summer transfer to be entirely fortunate.
“Because then players go from 100 per cent playing time to 15 per cent.
“That doesn’t do me much good for a national team coach.
“I told Nick that he was welcome to move to Bayern if he wanted to.
