Guillermo Almada admitted his disappointment after Real Oviedo fell to a 0-2 defeat against Real Madrid, but much of the post-match conversation revolved around the dramatic atmosphere inside the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
The evening was dominated by tension in the stands, where sections of the Real Madrid support loudly booed Kylian Mbappe throughout the match.
In complete contrast, veteran midfielder Santi Cazorla received a warm and emotional ovation when he entered the pitch for Oviedo.
After the match, Almada reflected on both the football and the intense atmosphere surrounding the game.

“My feeling is that we controlled the match well at times and created some promising chances. We would have liked to have had more of the play.
“What I can say is that we were pleased with the players’ commitment, but we would have liked to have given our fans a different result.“
Although Oviedo competed bravely during spells of the match, Almada admitted his side ultimately failed to take advantage of the opportunities they created against a tense Real Madrid side.
“But the players’ effort and overall performance didn’t leave us satisfied. Nobody likes to lose, and we would have liked to give our fans a positive result.
“I commend the commitment and willingness, and we couldn’t convert our clearest chances.”

One of the biggest talking points of the night remained the treatment Mbappe received from the home supporters.
The French superstar was repeatedly booed after entering the match in the second half, with frustration among sections of the Bernabeu crowd continuing to grow after a difficult season for Real Madrid.
Asked directly about the reaction towards Mbappe, Almada appeared surprised by the hostility directed at a player of the Frenchman’s status.
“It’s not normal for players of that calibre to be booed.
“That they applauded Santi doesn’t surprise me; he’s a player who is loved and respected throughout Spain. He’s earned that over the course of his career,” he concluded.
