Joshua Kimmich and FC Bayern are through to the semi-finals of the Champions League after beating Real Madrid 4-3. Despite progressing, the 31-year-old was critical of himself after the game

In FC Bayern’s 4:3 victory over Real Madrid, a number of individual errors were responsible for Real Madrid becoming more dangerous than in the first leg, with Manuel Neuer’s misplaced pass before the 1:0 causing a stir

Joshua Kimmich also commented on DAZN after the final whistle: „Of course we didn’t start as we’d hoped, but we knew at half-time that the longer the game went on, the more of an advantage we’d have.“ That’s why he felt it was „worth watching to the end. I hope all the children in Germany were allowed to stay awake a little longer. I hope my wife and son stayed awake a little longer. And then to school for the third hour tomorrow,“ Kimmich continued

When asked whether it had been one of the most hectic games of his career, he replied: „We knew before the game that both teams could really hurt the other team: us, of course, with our pressing, with our ball possession, but Real also with their counter-attacks.“

Kimmich emphasized once again: „The start wasn’t ideal, then they score a brutal free-kick goal. Then we get another counter-attack […] I don’t think we were in top form today. It certainly wasn’t our best game. We made lots and lots of mistakes. But of course we’ll take the win today.“

Kimmich sees PSG on an equal footing

After the success against Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain now await in the semi-finals – a team that Kimmich also knows how difficult they are to beat: „I saw Paris in the first leg. They’re not in bad form. You have to say, they always get into prime time form.“

Nevertheless, Kimmich is confident going into the two upcoming games against the French capital club, who beat Liverpool FC, because he knows: „We’ve already beaten them twice the last two years. This season, last season, though, we lost at the Club World Cup. I think they were always duels at a very, very high level. I’m definitely looking forward to the two games.“

The first legs of the semi-finals will be played on April 28 and 29 respectively. Good news for Bayern: In the second leg on May 5 or 6, Munich can once again rely on their home crowd in the Allianz Arena.
