Nottingham Forest are being linked with Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney as Premier League interest grows following Boro’s play-off final defeat to Hull City. He has emerged as a potential target for the City Ground club.
Forest are looking to replace the outgoing Elliot Anderson, who is set to join Manchester City for £116m. According to Sky Sports, Hackney is among the options alongside Lucas Bergvall, Davide Frattesi and Arne Engels, and the report says Bergvall has told Tottenham Hotspur he wants to leave this summer.
Everton have pursued Hackney, although they are yet to present an offer Middlesbrough deem acceptable. Boro are said to be holding out for a deal in the region of £20m.
Hackney won the Championship Player of the Year after five goals and six assists in 39 games last season. He and Anderson were part of England under-21 European Championship winners last summer.
The midfielder has 12 months remaining on his Middlesbrough contract and has made 154 appearances for his boyhood club.
