Nottingham Forest make contact to sign Bayern Munich young star | OneFootball

With the game delicately poised against Benfica in the second half on Wednesday, Vincent Kompany didn’t make several changes for Bayern Munich. Mathys Tel was an unused substitute even though Bayern needed some spark in the final third to double the lead.

The young French forward is struggling to get game time, let alone getting into goalscoring form. Courtesy of playing just 116 minutes this season across all competitions, Tel’s future is subject to speculation in Germany. Werder Bremen are already showing concrete interest in signing him on loan in January, but a Premier League club has also contacted to explore the conditions of the deal.

Apart from Forest, other Premier League clubs are also interested in Tel. Manchester United had reportedly touched base with Tel's agents earlier this year. The next couple of months could see Bayern being approached by several clubs for the exciting French winger. The record Bundesliga champions are open to loaning Tel out for regular game time, but the teenager currently has no plans to leave Munich in January.

Tel should look for a short-term loan in January

The 18-year-old winger had a terrific campaign last year, scoring 14 goals across all competitions. He was largely used as a super substitute by Thomas Tuchel. Tel had the opportunity to leave Bayern on loan in 2023, but he preferred staying in Munich to learn from top players.

The French winger probably has the same thought process right now. Training with top players will help him, but right now, he also needs exposure on the pitch and an adequate amount of game time to polish the rough edges of his game.

A six-month loan spell will certainly help Tel to become a better forward. He will struggle to get meaningful game time under Vincent Kompany during the second half of the season unless there is a significant injury crisis. The French winger is part of Bayern’s long-term plans, but he needs a temporary move away from Munich at this point in his development.

In an ideal scenario, Bayern secures a good loan move for Tel in the Bundesliga. It will benefit all parties if Tel plays in Germany. Unless there is a significant change in his game time over the next eight weeks, the French winger may have to eventually consider a loan move. As things stand, he will not be short of suitors.
