Starting XI

Matz Sels – 7/10

Was not tested enough by the Sunderland attack but was composed when called upon, made a good save from Enzo Le Fée in the second-half.

Ola Aina – 7/10

Won the most duels in the game (11) and was a quiet but crucial contributor to Sunderland’s blunt attack.

Nikola Milenkovic – 8/10

Nullified the physical threat of Brian Brobbey and showed his competency on the ball.

Jair Cunha – 6/10

Came into the team to replace the injured Murillo but was substituted off on the 50th-minute after a tussle with Brobbey, leaving him with what appeared to be a shoulder injury. Was having a solid game before his night was ended.

Neco Williams – 7/10

Similar to Aina, as he quietly contributed to quieting the Sunderland threat. Had a good opportunity to add further damage in the first half after Hutchinson played him through but was let down by his first touch.

Ibrahim Sangaré – 6/10

A physical presence in the first-half before being replaced by Dominguez at half-time.

Elliot Anderson – 9/10

A performance that showed why the top clubs are after him, was composed and industrial throughout. A huge difference maker in Forest’s late-season push and rounded off this top performance with a goal.

Omari Hutchinson – 8/10

A lively performance before being replaced after 67 minutes. It was his delicious cross that led to the Hume own goal.

Morgan Gibbs-White – 9/10

What would have been had his transfer to Spurs gone through last summer? A goal and an assist as MGW continues his hot streak right in time for a final World Cup push.

Igor Jesus – 9/10

An impressive performance in the number ten position. Crucially, he was a constant threat from set-pieces as Sunderland continually left him alone at the back-post, resulting in three goals.

Chris Wood – 8/10

A classic centre-forward’s performance; led the press well and was rewarded with a goal. Was a pain for Ballard and Alderete to deal with and combined well with his team-mates.

Substitutes

Nicolás Dominguez – 6/10

Replaced Sangeré at half-time and was steady throughout the second period.

Morato – 6/10

Came on for the injured Jair Cunha and slotted in alongside Milenkovic well for the last 40 minutes of play.

Luca Netz – 5/10

Did little of note in his 23 minutes on the pitch.

Ryan Yates – 6/10

Added extra experience and leadership to help Forest see out their clean sheet after coming on with Netz.

Taiwo Awoniyi – 6/10

Was introduced to the game after a long wait in the 88th minute, yet still managed to assist Anderson for his goal.
