Nottingham Forest are prepared to allow Cuiabano to leave on loan before the end of the winter transfer window as they explore options to strengthen at left back.

The Brazilian defender joined Forest last summer in a £10 million deal but has yet to make a competitive first-team appearance.

Forest now consider a temporary move to be the most practical solution as they reassess their defensive options.

Cuiabano was one of four signings completed from Botafogo, alongside striker Igor Jesus, centre-back Jair Cunha and goalkeeper John Victor.

While the others have been integrated into senior plans to varying degrees, Cuiabano’s involvement has been limited.

The 22-year-old returned to Brazil immediately after signing to complete the domestic season with Botafogo and only rejoined Forest last month.

His sole appearance was for the club’s development side.

Forest are open to another loan move that would provide aid his adaptation to European football.

A switch within Evangelos Marinakis’ ownership network is viewed as the most likely outcome.

Portuguese side Rio Ave and Greek champions Olympiacos are both under consideration.

Forest’s willingness to sanction Cuiabano’s departure is closely linked to their plans at left back.

Oleksandr Zinchenko’s loan spell from Arsenal has failed to deliver the expected impact.

The Ukraine international has started only four Premier League matches and is now expected to leave before the end of the transfer window.

A move to Ajax is being explored, which would leave Forest short of natural options on the left side of defence.

Although Neco Williams and Ola Aina have both filled in effectively despite being right-sided players, Forest are keen to add specialist cover.

Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas is among the players under consideration. Forest have maintained an interest in the Greece international since last summer.

The 29-year-old is currently on loan at Roma but has struggled for game time in Serie A.

He has made just four league starts in Italy, prompting discussions over a potential early termination of his loan.

Roma would be willing to allow Tsimikas to depart if they can secure a replacement.

Forest’s familiarity with the player is significant. Tsimikas began his senior career at Olympiacos before moving to Liverpool in 2020.

He made 66 Premier League appearances and gained extensive experience with Liverpool.

That profile appeals to Forest as they look for immediate reliability rather than long-term development.
