Nottingham Forest end a 29-year wait on Wednesday as they make their return to European group stage football with a trip to Real Betis.
The Europa League fixture marks the club’s first continental match since a UEFA Cup quarter-final in 1996, a historic occasion for the club and its supporters.
While the club is new to this stage, their manager is a proven winner in this competition. Ange Postecoglou arrives in Seville as the reigning Europa League champion, having lifted the trophy with Tottenham last season. His exceptional 67% win ratio in the tournament provides a huge source of optimism as Forest begin their new European adventure.
Ange Postecoglou’s selection is hampered by a number of absences for the trip to Spain. He will be without the injured Nicolas Domínguez and Ola Aina, while Oleksandr Zinchenko and Omari Hutchinson are both ineligible after being left out of the Europa League squad.
The manager also faces an anxious wait over key defender Murillo, who will have a late fitness test on a knock. If fit, he is expected to partner Nikola Milenkovic at the back. Callum Hudson-Odoi is pushing for a start in attack alongside Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood.
Nottingham Forest predicted XI: Sels; Williams, Milenkovic, Murillo, Morato; Luiz, Anderson; Ndoye, Gibbs-White, Hudson-Odoi; Wood
The Europa League fixture will be played at the Estadio La Cartuja on Wednesday, 24 September 2025, with kick-off scheduled for 8:00 pm BST.
The match will be broadcast live on TNT Sports 1 and discovery+ in the UK.
