West Ham have confirmed Nuno Espírito Santo is to remain in charge following relegation from the Premier League. The club said in a statement that he has committed to the Hammers and they have committed to him.
The Hammers dropped into the Championship on Sunday after Tottenham's victory at Everton sealed their fate. It is their first demotion since 2011.
Speculation over his future followed, including claims on Monday that talks had taken place and he was set to be sacked. By Tuesday, there were indications some board members wanted him to stay, before the club's confirmation.
Meetings with the head coach were held early this week, and he is highly motivated to lead an immediate return. His one previous year in the EFL Championship ended with Wolves winning the 2018 title with 99 points.
The board believe there have been broader signs of improvement in recent months and want Nuno to continue that progress next season. Promotion at the first attempt has been set out as the unquestionable goal.
