Nwaneri scores twice: Arsenal youth international roundup for September

Arsenal had nine youth internationals in action for England and Wales over the September break, let’s look at how they got on.

Arsenal received seven England call-ups for the September break, concentrated in just two teams.

The Gunners didn’t receive any call-ups from the England u21s, u20s, or u18s, but they did have players in the u19s and the u17s.

In the u19s, new signing Tommy Setford was joined by Ethan Nwaneri, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Ayden Heaven, all of whom were involved with the side for the first time.

The England u19s were playing friendlies in preparation for November’s u19 Euro qualifiers.

In the u17s, Jack Porter, Max Dowman, and Theo Julienne were all involved. Dowman is still just 14 years old, but he’s playing regular football for the Arsenal u18s, so it was no surprise to see him involved with England a few age groups up.

The England u17s were playing in the Pinatar International Tournament.

As for Wales, Will Sweet was called up by the u19s, and Brayden Clarke by the u18s for their friendly matches.

Wednesday, September 4th

England u17s 5-0 Mexico – Pinatar International Tournament – Dowman played 61 minutes and scored for England, with Julienne playing the final 20 minutes of the game. Porter wasn’t involved.
Italy 2-2 England u19s – Friendly – Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly played 76 minutes, with Nwaneri scoring once but seeing a penalty saved. Heaven came off the bench for the final 14 minutes, and Setford wasn’t involved.
Wales u18s 0-0 Czechia – Friendly – Clarke played 79 minutes for Wales, helping them to keep a clean sheet.

Friday, September 6th

Wales u18s 3-2 Slovakia – Friendly – Clarke played 57 minutes for Wales.

Saturday, September 7th

Wales u19s 2-2 Turkmenistan – Friendly – Sweet made a start for Wales.
England u17s 0-0 Israel – Friendly – Julienne started and played 75 minutes, Dowman came on as a substitute for the final 24 minutes, and Porter was again an unused sub.
Croatia 1-1 England u19s – Friendly – Setford played 90 minutes, only conceding from the penalty spot. Heaven played 68 minutes as a starter, whilst Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly came on as substitutes for 22 and 12 minutes respectively.

Sunday, September 8th

Wales u18s 1-2 Turkey – Clarke came on for 45 minutes as a substitute.

Monday, September 9th

Wales u19s 3-0 Azerbaijan – Friendly – Sweet was a substitute for Wales.

Tuesday, September 10th

Germany 1-3 England u17s – Friendly – Porter played 90 minutes, Dowman played 72, and Julienne played 11 as a substitute for England.
Germany 3-2 England u19s – Friendly – Setford and Nwaneri played 90 minutes for England, with Nwaneri scoring one of England’s goals, whilst Lewis-Skelly and Heaven were unused substitutes.
