Liverpool's interest in one of Europe's most in-demand players sparks an offer. Richard Hughes' next major signing?
Liverpool will re-enter the transfer market in 2026. They simply have to - it won't be a repeat of 2024, even if we may not see the kind of spend 2025 delivered.
But the situation at centre-back necessitates a signing or two. The exact number rests on Ibrahima Konate, really, as he decides what to do with the end of his contract.
Liverpool, though, will want to sign someone. They tried at the end of the summer, of course, by getting incredibly close to signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.
That fell apart at the end but the Palace captain would have been a replacement for Joe Gomez. It's a plan that remains very much possible - even if Guehi may not be the ultimate signing.
Liverpool do have eyes on other defenders and one of them is an incredibly interesting possibility.
Liverpool are now being consistently linked with a move for Dayot Upamencano, whose contract with Bayern Munich expires at the end of the season. Christian Falk is one of the latest to report it, saying there's a 'keen interest' from the Reds.
And why wouldn't there be? Upamecano might be exactly what Liverpool are after given their struggles to kick off this season.
