Official: Barcelona announce first-team contract termination | OneFootball

La Liga giants Barcelona have this week made official the termination of the contract of a member of the club’s midfield ranks.

The player in question? Oriol Romeu.

Midfielder Romeu for his part secured a return to base in Barcelona earlier this summer.

As much came after the 33-year-old spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan with the Blaugrana’s Catalan rivals, Girona.

After it was quickly made clear to Romeu that he did not feature in the plans of Hansi Flick for the season ahead, though, Deco and co. set about finding a new home for the former Southampton man.

In the end, no such suitor was found.

Talks, in turn, were recently opened regarding an immediate contract termination.

And as alluded to above, late this week, an official announcement confirming as much has been forthcoming online.

As per a statement across Barca’s social media platforms:

‘Agreement reached between FC Barcelona and first team player Oriol Romeu to cancel his contract with the Club within the timeframe of the transfer market.’
