FC Barcelona begin their UEFA Champions League campaign with a tough away fixture against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park tonight.
With kickoff not far away, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has announced the starting lineup that will be taking the field against Eddie Howe’s men.
And there are some notable changes made to the team that featured against Valencia in La Liga on Sunday.
Indeed, Barcelona have Frenkie de Jong back in the starting lineup after he returned to the squad following a brief layoff through injury. He replaces Marc Casado as Pedri’s partner in midfield.
Meanwhile, Ronald Araujo starts at centre-back alongside Pau Cubarsi and captains the team against Newcastle. He comes in at the expense of Eric Garcia.
Jules Kounde and Gerard Martin continue as the two full-backs, with the latter filling in for the injured Alejandro Balde. Joan Garcia makes his Champions League debut in the Barcelona goal.
Up ahead in the attacking unit, Robert Lewandowski makes his first start of the season, replacing Ferran Torres as the No. 9.
Meanwhile, Raphinha also returns to the lineup after being benched against Valencia, with Roony Bardghji making way.
Marcus Rashford and Fermin Lopez retain their places as the left-winger and the attacking midfielder, respectively.
