Former FC Barcelona player Daniel Alves has been ordered to pay compensation to Mexican club Pumas UNAM.
In 2023, Daniel Alves ended his football career while facing Spanish justice in a rape case. This off-field incident prompted his last club, Mexico's Pumas UNAM, to terminate his contract. Since then, the Liga MX side has announced that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled in its favor and even ordered the Brazilian to pay compensation.
"Club Universidad Nacional, A.C., announces that on September 1, 2025, it was notified of the arbitral award rendered by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in the contractual dispute between the Club and player Daniel Alves Da Silva. The CAS ruled in favor of the Club, overturning the May 15, 2024 decision of FIFA's Dispute Resolution Chamber and issuing a new decision in which, in addition to confirming the validity of the contract termination for just cause exercised by the Club, it ordered Mr. Alves to pay a sum greater than that set by FIFA as compensation for the damages caused to the institution," stated the Mexican club.
