Hansi Flick has signed a new Barcelona contract until 2028, with an option for one more year. The agreement was completed at midday on Monday, making his extension official after he had flagged it last week.
Although a verbal agreement had existed for months, he chose to wait until the season finished, with the league title secured, and after a 3-1 farewell win over Betis at the Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday.
The renewal secures continuity for one of the architects of a refreshed, youthful side embarking on a promising era. An excellent understanding between his agent Pini Zahavi and the club hierarchy proved decisive, with a meeting after the clásico on 10 May, revealed by SPORT, helping to finalise it. Renewing him had been an absolute priority for the club and there was little doubt both sides would continue together.
Flick’s record so far is strong, two league titles, one Copa del Rey and two Super Cups, with many of those trophies won by defeating Real Madrid at decisive moments. He has lifted the mood in the dressing room, among supporters and across the city over the past two years.
With a trip to Mestalla on Saturday still to come, the season’s work is largely done. Focus now turns to shaping the squad and the market so that, in Flick’s third season, Barcelona keep dominating domestically and tackle their Champions League frustration.
