Official: Girona star departs for Napoli | OneFootball

La Liga outfit Girona have on Tuesday announced the departure of a leading member of the club’s defensive ranks.

The Blanquivermells star to have brought a close to his time at the Estadi Montilivi? Miguel Gutiérrez.

The name of versatile full-back Gutiérrez had of course emerged as an altogether prominent one in the media headlines surrounding Girona over recent weeks.

This came after word was forthcoming that Serie A champions Napoli were moving ahead with a concerted push for his signature.

The former Real Madrid man was earmarked as the ideal addition by Antonio Conte and his staff, with talks, in turn, having long been kicked into gear between the clubs.

And as alluded to above, early this week, such discussions have officially borne fruit.

As per a statement across the website and social media platforms of Girona on Tuesday:

‘Girona FC and SSC Napoli have reached an agreement for the transfer of Miguel Gutiérrez to the Italian team.

‘Since his arrival in the summer of 2022, Miguel has been a key player in the team’s growth, playing 112 official matches in the Girona FC jersey, as well as scoring 6 goals and providing 19 assists. His talent, commitment, and professionalism have been fundamental in some of the best chapters of the Club’s recent history, including European qualification and a historic season in the First Division.

‘Girona wants to thank Miguel for his dedication during these three seasons, in which he has proven to be not only a great player but also a great teammate both on and off the field. We wish him all the best in his new chapter in Italian football.

‘Thank you for everything, Miguel. This will always be your home.’
