Krépin Diatta (26) has been temporarily added to AS Monaco’s UEFA Champions League squad, it has been confirmed. He replaces the injured Denis Zakaria (28).
Zakaria is set to miss two months of competition after suffering an adductor injury in training, the day before AS Monaco’s UEFA Champions League opener against Club Brugge. A new UEFA rule this season allows for an injured player to be taken out of the Champions League squad, replaced, and then re-inserted when they have returned to fitness.
Monaco have used this rule to insert Diatta into their squad. The request was made by the Principality club earlier this week, and their request has now been accepted by the authorities. The Senegalese player came off the bench against FC Metz over the weekend. He took the place at right-back, allowing Jordan Teze to play in midfield, where Monaco are hamstrung by a number of absences.
Diatta will therefore be able to play against Manchester City on Wednesday. Zakaria will be able to be readded to the squad when he returns to fitness.
