Ajax midfielder Kenneth Taylor has completed a permanent transfer to Lazio, becoming the club’s second January signing.
The Biancocelesti had announced the arrival of Serbian striker Petar Ratkov on Thursday, and just over 24 hours later, they made another addition to their ranks. The Dutch midfielder had arrived in Rome on Thursday evening, before undergoing his medical on Friday. Lazio made the announcement through a post on the club’s official website.
SS Lazio announces that it has definitively acquired the rights to the contract of footballer Kenneth Ina Dorothea Taylor, arriving from AFC Ajax. The 23-year-old midfielder has put pen to paper on a long-term contract with SS Lazio after agreeing personal terms and successfully passing a doctor.
The figures behind the agreement with Ajax remain undisclosed, but earlier reports suggested that Lazio were ready to spend circa €15 million in addition to €2-3 million to secure the 23-year-old’s services.
Taylor could well be the left-footed box-to-box midfielder Maurizio Sarri was promised in the summer before the transfer ban. The Italian tactician was able to fill the gap thanks to Toma Basic’s unexpected resurgence. Therefore, the two players could vie for a starting berth, as Lazio are still expected to sign a right-footed midfielder to replace Matteo Guendouzi.
The young Dutchman also expressed his delight at joining the Aquile, whom he had played against last season in the Europa League, while revealing that he chose the No. 24 as a homage to the late LA Lakers icon, Kobe Bryant.
I’m truly very happy and excited to begin this new adventure. Lazio are a very big club — everything here is beautiful and I can’t wait to get started. When I heard the news I was with my family and we were all really happy. Last season with Ajax was very positive. Lazio beat us 3–1 and made a very strong impression. We’re talking about an important club: I’ll try to bring all the experience and everything I learned at Ajax here, with the aim of winning trophies. I always try to get into the box to score, because in the end goals are one of the most important things in football. You have to score, so I always try to be ready. I chose the number 24 for Kobe Bryant.
