Rayan Cherki (21) has completed a big-money move to Manchester City. The Olympique Lyonnais academy product has signed a five-year deal with the Premier League side.
Whilst the fee remains undisclosed, L’Équipe understands the deal for the France international to be worth over €40m. His move to Manchester, away from Lyon, where he has spent the entirety of his career, comes ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup. With the deal completed before Tuesday’s deadline, he will now take part in that competition, meaning that he will soon fly over to the US with his new teammates.
Cherki came through the ranks at boyhood club OL, featuring 185 times for the French side. His final season with the club was his most fruitful. He netted 12 goals and registered 20 assists across 44 appearances. His eight assists in the club’s UEFA Europa League campaign were the most of any player in the competition.
“I would only leave Lyon for a project I really believe in, and everything at City suggests I can develop my game and help the team be successful in the future,” said Cherki upon his arrival at Manchester City.
