With the culmination of Matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League, Real Madrid find themselves second in the table, standing among only six teams to have won both their matches.
This week saw the Merengues embark on an arduous trip to Kazakhstan, where they beat Kairat Almaty 5-0, riding on a hat-trick from Kylian Mbappe.
The French superstar’s brilliance in Almaty has now earned him the title of the UEFA Champions League Player of the Week for Matchday 2.
The Real Madrid forward beat competition from players like Rasmus Hojlund, Jens Petter Hauge, and Erling Haaland for the honour.
Mbappe got the ball rolling for Real Madrid against Kairat with a well-taken penalty in the first half after Franco Mastantuono was fouled inside the box.
Early in the second period, the French attacker bagged his second of the night, latching onto a long pass from goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. He completed his hat-trick about 20 minutes later, with a clinical finish after some brilliant work by Rodrygo and Arda Guler.
The 26-year-old superstar now has five goals in two Champions League matches this season and 13 strikes across all competitions.
