Lyon travel to Marseille on Sunday at 20:45 still without four forwards, with Pavel Sulc, Afonso Moreira, Malick Fofana and Ernest Nuamah all out. Their 13-match winning run ended at Strasbourg on 22 February with a 1-3 defeat.
According to L'Équipe, Sulc, the club’s leading scorer in all competitions with 13 goals and seven assists, sustained a thigh problem in that match and will not make the trip. Moreira, absent for the past two games with a hamstring issue, also stays out. A return for the Paris FC fixture on 8 March would be a real surprise, and both will miss the Coupe de France quarter-final against Lens on 5 March at Groupama Stadium.
Fofana has not featured since 26 October against Strasbourg, a 2-1 win, after a heavy foul by Ismaël Doukouré damaged his right ankle. Nuamah suffered cruciate ligament damage on 4 April 2025 against LOSC. Both still require more time.
Head coach Paulo Fonseca said the situation has dragged on, adding it is harder to replace four attackers than defenders. He called the lack of options concerning and said the team must cope with those available and try to overcome the issue. He also noted Lyon lacked depth in behind at Strasbourg.
There is some relief, with midfielder Orel Mangala training this week and expected to be available, as is defender Hans Hateboer. March also brings a trip to Vigo in C3.
