France qualified for the 2026 World Cup ahead of time with a clear 4-0 win against Ukraine – and Bayern star Michael Olise played outstandingly well.

Didier Deschamps‘ tactical move was remarkable. While Olise normally plays on the right wing at FC Bayern, he moved into the center against Ukraine in the second half. It was precisely there that he found space, time and access – and really flourished.

„As soon as he was in a central position and had more space, he was able to develop even better,“ explained Deschamps after the game. The French newspaper L’Équipe even wrote that this decision „changed everything“.

The national team coach also admitted that the enormous workload had taken its toll on Olise recently: „He wasn’t always at his best, but he is a very important part of our attacking play.“

Munich should also be relieved. Olise has looked somewhat overplayed in recent games, lacking penetration and efficiency. However, his gala against Ukraine clearly shows that the dip in form was only temporary – and his top quality is undisputed.

With this performance, Michael Olise proved that he is capable of playing at world-class level at any time despite an intensive season.
