Frenchman came off with an injury in Thursday’s Conference League clash as pressure mounts on Eagles manager

Oliver Glasner has confirmed that Maxence Lacroix will be assessed after he suffered an adductor injury during Thursday’s 1-1 Conference League draw with Zrinjski Mostar.

Lacroix was replaced by Jaydee Canvot just past the hour mark as Palace were pegged back in the first leg of their Conference League play-off.

Glasner said after the game that it was “never a good sign” if a player had to be substituted due to a muscle injury, and he confirmed supporters’ worst fears on Friday morning as he admitted the initial prognosis “does not look really good” for the French central defender.

“(The injury is) how it looked like yesterday, yes, but again, we will assess him further with training in the afternoon, so after the press conference, and then we will see,” said Glasner.

“He had to be subbed because he had problems with his adductor, and he mentioned it at half-time already, so it doesn't look really good.”

Palace are without a number of first-team players through injury as they prepare to face Wolves on Sunday, and Glasner admitted that Daichi Kamada, Eddie Nketiah, Jean-Philippe Mateta, Jefferson Lerma and Cheick Doucoure would not be fit enough to return to action this weekend.

“No, all others look fine, but nobody will come back. (Cristantus) Uche, he is not registered for the Conference (League), but he will be available. And all others from yesterday.”

Following their draw against Zrinjski Mostar, Palace have now won just one of their last 15 games in all competitions.

It has been a bitterly disappointing period on and off the pitch for the Eagles, who lost club captain Marc Guehi in January on the same day Glasner announced he would not renew his contract.

Supporter frustrations have been growing, and they boiled over on Thursday night with chants of ‘we want Glasner out’ and ‘sacked in the morning’ heard from the away end.

Glasner is set to leave the club at the end of the season, but talks are reportedly being held over his immediate future with the Austrian admitting he was unsure if he would see out the rest of his contract, which expires in June.

Asked about the chants from the Palace supporters, Glasner, who led the club to the FA Cup last season, acknowledged that his side had struggled to contend with a rise in expectations after lifting the first major trophy in the club’s history.

“The expectations are just getting higher and higher and higher and higher, and we can't fulfil them in the last months. That's the reality,” Glasner continued.

"We're not in the best moment right now & to be honest, I understand & take responsibility for everything, because I'm responsible for the whole team. I'm just not good enough to replace the players we sold. I'm just not good enough to integrate the new players in a way that we can play the same way like we did."
