No1 takes over from recently-departed England international
Oliver Glasner has confirmed that goalkeeper Dean Henderson will replace Marc Guehi as Crystal Palace captain.
Guehi joined Manchester City in a £20million deal earlier this week after guiding Palace to the FA Cup last season.
His mid-season departure came as a shock, with many expecting the centre-back to leave the club upon the expiry of his contract this summer, but Glasner has moved quickly to name his replacement.
Henderson has been a mainstay under Glasner and will take the captain's armband until the end of the season, with Maxence Lacroix and Will Hughes supporting him as vice-captains.
“Dean Henderson will captain the team and Will Hughes and Maxence Lacroix will be his vice-captains," Glasner revealed.
Henderson joined Palace from Manchester United in 2023, after impressive loan spells at Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest.
The 28-year-old has made 93 appearances for the Eagles, keeping 32 clean sheets and earning three of his four England caps while at the club.
He captained the side during their 2-1 defeat to Sunderland last weekend, having also done so when Guehi missed Palace's 0-0 draw with Brighton through injury earlier in the season.
Henderson will skipper Palace for the first time since the announcement when they host Chelsea at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
Ahead of the game, Glasner also confirmed that wantaway striker Jean-Philippe Mateta would play despite rumours linking him with a move away from the club in January.
"We haven’t received a bid. He will play [against Chelsea] on Sunday,” Glasner continued.
