Oliver Glasner has begun work at Nottingham Forest, meeting his squad on day one of pre-season at the Nigel Doughty Academy. The change in head coach is aimed at pushing the club forward and targeting European football.
According to Nottingham Post, his appointment was confirmed last week after the surprise exit of Vitor Pereira. He arrived this morning and met his players for the first time.
Glasner has a full summer to shape his ideas. Having faced Forest with Crystal Palace, he knows the group and cited the squad’s potential as a factor in joining.
Only a few minor tweaks should be required. Elliot Anderson’s £116 million move to Manchester City leaves a midfield gap, and Jota Silva plus centre-back David Carmo have departed for Olympiacos.
Calls loom on several futures, notably defender Tyler Bindon after a loan at Sheffield United. Omar Richards remains under contract, and there is transfer speculation around Nicolo Savona and Dan Ndoye.
Callum Hudson-Odoi is rehabbing after April surgery and posted footage last month back on the grass. Murillo, Ola Aina, John Victor and Savona also missed the run-in, with John and Savona out since January, and fitness tests will shape friendly minutes. Glasner will assess their progress.
The next few weeks are for embedding style and building unity, adding to the togetherness Pereira established. Forest want to aim high after last season’s Europa League semi-final run, hoping this groundwork under Glasner sets the tone.
