Olivier Giroud (39) retired from international football after Euro 2024. He retired with the title of France’s all-time top-scorer, and whenever questioned on the decision, he has insisted that it is definitive.
However, speaking in an interview with RMC Sport, he revealed the conditions under which he would make a return for Les Bleus, even if the chances are very minute.
Didier Deschamps, whenever questioned about a return for Giroud, has also been definitive, noting that the player has made a decision and that he would not be calling up a player who has called time on his international career.
Even the former Arsenal, Chelsea, AC Milan, and Montpellier HSC striker’s return to Europe this summer has not changed the stance of either party. However, Giroud has now told RMC Sport show After Foot that he is not one to turn down a call-up, should one unexpectedly come his way.
“There would really have to be a big injury crisis to call me back up. At the minute, there are five forwards missing and the manager hasn’t called me back up. He has understood that I have turned the page. But if one day there is a need for me to help out, it isn’t my style to refuse a call-up. Even if I announced my retirement, to pay service, I could do it,” said Giroud.
